Primetime has a new trailer, released by A24 ahead of its debut in competition at this fall's Venice International  Film Festival in a couple of weeks. Robert Pattinson stars as Chris Hansen, star of the television series To Catch A Predator, where Hansen went undercover to confront child predators after arranging meet-ups with them online. It also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers, and is directed by Lance Oppenheim. The film will get a theatrical release on September 25. Pattinson also starred in A24's hit dramedy The Drama earlier this year alongside Zendaya. Primetime is produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, William Iannaccone, Brighton McCloskey, Lars Knudsen, Ari Aster, and Pattinson.

Primetime Continues Pattinson's Stellar 2026

For those who do not remember, To Catch a Predator aired as segments on Dateline from 2004 to 2007. They were so popular that they were moved to primetime after that. Hansen and the show's producers worked with watchdog group Perverted Justice to lure the offenders into traps, believing they were meeting underage children for sexual purposes at what turned out to be a sting house. Hansen would then confront them by telling them to "have a seat" and proceed to interview them on camera. While popular, it was ultimately canceled after ethical issues sprang up, and one suspect shot himself as police entered his home.

This is going to be an interesting, tough film to watch. Pattinson is fantastic in the trailer, downright creepy in some parts. He has really set himself apart from many of his contemporaries in 2026 as maybe the best working actor in Hollywood right now. Primetime looks to be his shot at earning nominations for his work this year, and from the trailer, it may be well deserved. We shall see when the film debuts in Venice next month, before the film opens in theaters on September 25.
