Project Cars is a very good racing sim. Slightly Mad have done very well to bring together a crowd funded project and deliver a beautiful looking game with some serious credentials to it. From what I've seen, most people are pleased with what the developer delivered…
… well, most people. Speaking on the developer's forums, boss Ian Bell explained that the promised Wii U version is struggling. He spoke quite candidly about how the game is failing to reach standards on the technically under-powered console. He also explained that the promise of the NX has caused the studio to wait on pulling the trigger on the port.
Don't read wrongly into that…
OK I'll come clean. At the moment we're running at about 23FPS on the WiiU.
We're awaiting/hoping for more of a hardware announcement at E3…
We could reach a fairly solid 30FPS but it might take a hell of a lot of work. On the other hand, about halfway through us finishing, Nintendo might announce a new console (I have zero knowledge on this BTW but I've heard 'rumours'). Our work might just be the best thing that ever hit that new console in the driving sim genre.
So we're playing a waiting game at the moment and yes, economics do come in to it.
I'll solve at least some of that now. Nintendo won't talk about the NX this year, so we can nip that in the bud.
I have to say, this is hardly surprising. It's a graphically intensive game and the Wii U is lagging quite far behind other versions on a processing level.
At the same time though, there are bound to be, an albeit pretty small group who donated money purely on the Wii U's promised version. If they don't deliever that, those people have a right to be disappointed. Here's hoping this get resolved.
Thanks to Nintendo Life for the heads up!
