Royal Rumble 2018: Shinsuke Nakamura Triumphs, Will Face AJ Styles

This year's men's Royal Rumble match was pretty standard. There were some surprises (such as Cien Almas from NXT entering, and Shaemus being eliminated within a few seconds), and some hilarious things (Such as Kofi Kingston's foot being placed on a stack of pancakes to stay legal), and some predictable things (Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt working together to clear the ring), and Jerry the King Lawler going "The Rumble Royal"! The Hurricane showed up, Finn Balor lasted a long time, Adam Cole entered, Rey Mysterio came in (wow!), Roman Reigns sent Seth Rollins out of the ring (possible Shield breakup in the works?), and Dolph Ziggler came back.

I've seen a lot of Royal Rumble matches in my day — I grew up with wrestling in my house. This was an above-average men's Rumble match to me, but the last time I saw a Royal Rumble was 14 years ago. The climax of the match was excellent though, as Balor, Mysterio, Cena, Orton, Nakamura, and Reigns were the last six standing. The fan favorite in the arena was Shinsuke Nakamura, and his one on one with Balor was absolutely grand. The two moved around each other like poetry, but alas, Cena eliminated Balor. Nakamura, Reigns, and Cena remained.

Three dropped to the final two, with Nakamura eliminating Cena. After long, drawn out tests of strength, Nakamura came out on top. He absolutely deserves it, and I hope he wins whatever title he wants at Wrestlemania against AJ Styles.
