At least that's how it sounds when The Hollywood Reporter say:
Sony Pictures Animation has closed a deal to acquire rights to the classic 1980s TV sitcom ALF and will develop the property into a CG-live action hybrid feature.
Bad idea. At least 90% of the show's appeal was in the puppet.
The rights to the character are held by producer Kenneth Kaufman, show creator Tom Patchett and ALF puppeterr and voice Paul Fusco . They're all involved in producing the film and Fusco will apparently reprise the voice role.
Also producing is Jordan Kerner, a veteran of the Smurfs movies. Seems to be he has a niche.
I don't think we need an ALF movie but I was at least interested in seeing the puppetry. Now… I can pretty much turn the dial down on this one. I doubt very much it will have anything to offer me.
Now watch them go ahead and hire Dan Fogelman to write and Garth Jennings to direct then cast this up like they're remaking Robocop just to spite my prejudice.
