The next of Netflix's original commissions is Orange is the New Black, a prison comedy-drama from Jenji Kohan, the creator of Weeds. It's derived from the memoirs of Piper Kerman, sometime money launderer and drug trafficker. Here we meet "Piper Chapman," played by Taylor Schilling.
This is actually funnier than a lot of full sitcom episodes I've seen lately, and uncomfortable and dramatic with it. Very promising.
Now, what everybody seems to have forgotten today is that Jodie Foster has directed a number of the show's thirteen episodes. What sort of number? I have no idea.
Orange Is the New Black will arrive, all at once, on July 11th. I'm liking the cut of your jib, Netflix.
