For his follow up to Captain America, Boba Fett's papa Joe Johnston went on to direct Not Safe For Work, one of Blumhouse's responsibly budgeted thrillers. It felt like an odd mix, but I can see the temptation in making a Blumhouse pic. So, apparently, can Johnston and stars Max Minghella, Eloise Mumford and JJ Feild.
But the film was off radar for a very long time, and somewhere along the line it was moved from the theatrical release calendar to direct-to-video. It's now set to hit disc and VOD on April 15th. Here's the first trailer.
It looked a little rough and ready there, but not so much that it would put me off. I've seen plenty of cheap, efficient B-pictures and exploitation films, many of them absolute classics.
But… Hollywood is Hollywood. This is going to be considered a bit of a nosedive for Johnston, I know it. Those of you banking on him directing the Boba Fett spin-off can probably put that dream in a drawer.
For now, I think we should just divert our energies to wishing for the best from Not Safe For Work. I'm certainly keen to see how well it goes, and it does have Molly Hagan in it, at least for a bit, and she's on my list of favourite character actors.
Now… what of Area 51, the other long-delayed Blumhouse movie?
