Trumbo stars Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston as screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Writer of such films as Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, he was called to testify before the House Unamerican Activities Committee in 1947. Refusing to answer charges, Trumbo was convicted of contempt of Congress, imprisoned and placed on Hollywood's blacklist of talent no longer welcome within the studio system. He continued to write scripts under assumed names, including screenplays for Spartacus and Roman Holiday among others.
The film, which dramatizes Trumbo's story and his part in the eventual breaking of the blacklist, also stars Louis C.K., Diane Lane and Elle Fanning. Dean O'Gorman and Helen Mirren also feature as Kirk Douglas and gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. Entertainment One UK released a new international trailer and it looks good, particularly for those interested in the history.
The film arrives in theaters on November 6th.
