Want A Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who Or Father Ted Nod In Captain America 2? How About The Only Way Is Essex? Mrs. Brown's Boys?

There's apparently going to be sequence in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in which Steve Rogers' notebook appears on screen and shows off his list of things he missed out on while he was frozen in ice for decades.

Some of those things are going to be TV shows, and you can play a part in deciding which ones.

Now, this appears to be rather like something Pixar pioneered. I remember that Toy Story 2 had a line overdubbed by Andi Peters, a UK TV personality, for the British release. Dreamworks ran with the idea, inserting local voices into several of their toons, calling it the "Local Heroes" scheme.

What Marvel are doing, I think, is using a different insert of Steve's notebook for the UK version of the film.

I say this, because amongst the shows up for inclusion are Mrs. Brown's Boys and The Only Way is Essex, and nothing particularly Americentric.

Or maybe the same page is going to feature a mixture of both, I don't know, and we'll see Fawlty Towers shoulder-to-shoulder with Allie McBeal and BJ and the Bear.*

Anyway, the full list is below. You can vote for your favourite at The Radio Times website. Whoever wrote their story seems a little out of touch with the Marvel Movieverse, saying:

Following on from the events of Avengers Assemble, the movie sees Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, emerge from a 65-year ice coma to a changed world.

Yep – there's that person who never saw The Avengers, one Paul Jones.

  • The Only Way Is Essex
  • Coronation Street
  • Father Ted
  • Sherlock
  • Doctor Who
  • Big Brother
  • Mrs Brown's Boys
  • Fawlty Towers
  • The X Factor
  • Downton Abbey

I voted for Mrs. Brown's Boys because this is clearly supposed to be a comedy moment and that, and TOWIE, would get the biggest laughs. I'm disappointed to see neither is in the running right now. Lend me a hand?

*I'm now worried that "Allie McBeal BJ Bear" is going to pack too much SEO punch and I'll want to freeze myself in ice for 65 years.
