There's been a lot of unpleasantness in the press the past few weeks between Blue is the Warmest Color director Abdellatif Kechiche and actresses Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux but hopefully this won't distract too much from what a truly extraordinary film it is.
A new featurette has just been released for the film and it features the director and the two actresses. Not all together though.
Blue is the Warmest Color has been given an NC-17 rating by the MPAA in America, but the MPAA's ratings are just a recommendation rather than a legal position – oh, how I wish that was the case in the UK- and the IFC Center in Greenwich Village have decided to ignore that recommendation.
The IFC center and Sundance Selects, who are releasing the film, are all owned by IFC so I imagine this is as much a smart bit of PR as much as anything else but I still appreciate the stand they're taking here.
Blue is the Warmest Color is out in America on limited screens this week and in the UK on the 22nd of November.
