X-Men: Kit Connor Reportedly In Talks To Play Scott Summers/Cyclops

Kit Connor is the latest name to pop up as a contender to join the cast of the new X-Men film, and he's reportedly up for the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops.

It sounds like Marvel is letting the ink dry on some of the X-Men contracts as we head into the week before D23. The X-Men film was notably absent from the Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, but casting news dropped at the end of July. Scream Queen Samara Weaving was reportedly in talks to be the White Queen of the Marvel Universe, aka Emma Frost. A week later, and the next bit of casting news has reportedly dropped as Deadline is reporting that Kit Connor is in talks to join the cast as Scott Summers, aka Cyclops.

Scott Summers has been The Worst around for as long as the X-Men have existed. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and made his first appearance in  The X-Men #1 in September 1963. Scott is known for his laser eyes, which are controlled with a visor. His romantic relationships with Jean Grey, Emma Frost, and Madelyne Pryor are essential to his character. Fans give him a hard time, much like Reed Richards is called an asshole, but he's been around and stayed around for this long for a reason.

He has shown up in movies and television adaptations since the beginning as well, including in TV shows like  X-Men: The Animated Series (1992), X-Men: Evolution (2000), Wolverine and the X-Men (2008), Marvel Anime: Wolverine (2011), Marvel Anime: X-Men (2011), and X-Men '97 (2024). In live-action film, Scott has also been there since day and been played by two different actors, James Marsden and Tye Sheridan in the films X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Dark Phoenix (2019), with Marden reprising the role again in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

What Do X-Men Look Like In A Post-Doomsday And Secret Wars MCU?

The mutants have been lurking on the edges of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while now, but it wasn't until September 2023 that we got official confirmation that an X-Men movie was in the works. It took another two years before a director was officially announced. In May 2025, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier was officially announced and confirmed to direct the film. Schreier explained, "I can't say anything about it, but we've started work on X-Men, and that's obviously very, very exciting. There are so many things that I didn't know about before I started [Thunderbolts*]. The biggest learning curve for me was the proportion of the action to the more emotional, character-driven scenes, and how, even though it's more shooting days than I've ever had, they get eaten up quite quickly by the action stuff. By the time we got to the end of it, it felt like, 'Oh, now I feel like we get how to do this a little bit better.'"

In the middle of July 2025, Kevin Feige spoke briefly about the X-Men, specifically about how they will be recast post-Avengers: Secret. Feige explained, "Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we're thinking along those lines. … 'X-Men' is where that will happen next." So the version of the X-Men that Schreier is (likely) working on is for a cast and maybe even a timeline of the MCU we haven't seen yet. You can't really talk about the film without giving away at least something about what a post-Secret Wars MCU will look like, so expect next to nothing about this or any film coming out after Secret Wars for a while.
