Drew Brees Needs Us to Look Into His Eyes Before His Video Cuts Out

On Thursday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees took to Instagram to attempt a little public relations damage clean-up over his "never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag or our country" comment during an interview on Wednesday. Posting a lengthy response to the pushback he received on social media as well as from a number of big names such as Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers, and others, we're guessing that Brees was expecting that to be enough to dial down the heat. From the sounds of sports talk television and radio over the past 24 hours, we're not quite sure it worked. Apparently, Brees didn't either, taking to Instagram on Friday morning to post a video that's, well… there.

First thing, Drew? Hold the phone a little further away. Second? If you need to be that close, stay away from the "eyes" thing. At that range, it comes across as either creepy of "hacky hypnotist." Last thing? Maybe take the time to trim the dead time in the beginning, but honestly? Our biggest issue? For something this important, how do you run out of time? Even better, how do you not film another one? It wasn't like it was a live stream or anything. Here's a look at the video, see for yourselves:

During his interview with Yahoo Finance on Wednesday, Brees referenced his family's history of U.S. military service as one of the foundations for his belief. Following his initial statement, Brees continued: "And is everything right with our country right now? No, it's not. We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better, and that we are all part of the solution."

Early Thursday morning, Brees looked to clarify his comments and play a little public relations clean-up, responding to the controversy via Instagram with a lengthy post punctuated with a stock image that brought back memories of Rocky III. Some are still calling into question how Brees was able to "find Jesus" so quickly and if this was just a move to protect his image and endorsement deals. Others wonder if Brees isn't trying to push some of the blame off as a misunderstanding with this line included near the end: "I am sick about the way my comments were perceived yesterday, but I take full responsibility and accountability."
