The Emmy-winning Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale is adding an Emmy-winning actor to the cast for season 2. The West Wing's Bradley Whitford has been added to the series about a dystopian world in a recurring role. The veteran actor will be playing Commander Joseph Lawrence: a gruff, intimidating man with a sly sense of humor and is the chief architect of Gilead's economy. As last season ended with Offred (Elisabeth Moss) being dragged away, it is possible she will be the Commander's handmaid in the new season.

Both Moss and Whitford were on The West Wing together. Whitford played deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman, a role that landed him three Emmy nominations and one win. Moss played first daughter Zoey Bartlett. Whitford won a second Emmy in 2015 for a guest appearance on Amazon's Transparent. He's also appeared on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Happy-ish, Trophy Wife, and the film Get Out.

He's not the only big name added to the second season of the series — Oscar winner Marisa Tomei will guest star and Cherry Jones has been cast as Offred's mother, Holly.

The Handmaid's Tale season 2 starts April 25th on Hulu.
