Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee: AEW Double or Nothing Results

We're heading into the home stretch of AEW Double or Nothing, as the AEW Championship is defended in the second-to-last match of the card. I'm your favorite Bleeding Cool wrestling reporter, Chad McMahon, here to take this PPV live coverage almost to the finish line.

Brodie Lee came out to the ring first, carrying Jon Moxley's belt. AEW security guards in literal red shirts divided the ring in half. Moxley came out next, understandably very annoyed at Brody's antics the last few weeks. Mox made his way through the sort-of crowd in a brand new leather jacket with lots of gold paint on it. Brodie Lee demanded Dasha introduce him as the self-proclaimed AEW Champion.

Security left the ring and Moxlety charged Lee to start, but ended up tossed in the corner and pummeled with punches and chops. Lee tossed Moxley to the other corner and tried a hick kick, but Moxley dodged. Lee rolled outside and Moxley hit a suicide dive. Lee returned fire with a suplex on the floor. He picked Moxley up and chased him around the ring with punches and slaps.

Lee tossed Moxley in the ring and hit a rolling senton over the top rope. He followed up with a pair of suplexes and then planted him on the ropes in the corner. Moxley fought back and lept off the top rope, but Lee caught him by the throat and tossed him out of the ring then hit his own suicide dive. Lee cleared some of the ringside wreckage out of the way and he and Moxley traded blows. Moxley tried to German suplex Lee through a section of railing, but Lee reversed and dropped him face-first on some railing. Lee then hit a pump-handle suplex onto the section of railing Moxley was trying to hit earlier.

Lee rolled Moxley back into the ring and went for a discus clothesline but Moxley hit him first and they traded blows in the middle of the ring. Mox hit a running knee but it barely phased Lee, who returned fire with some kicks and a backdrop. Lee hit a splash on Moxley in the corner but Moxley bounced back with a clothesline and a piledriver for a two-count.

Moxley climbed out and dragged some steel ring steps next to the timekeeper's table, but he took too long doing it and Lee took him out with a dropkick. Lee pulled Moxley up to the top of the stairs and went for a powerbomb into the timekeeper's table, but Moxley reversed and dumped Lee through it instead. Moxley followed up with some punches and knees and rolled Lee into the ring.

Mox went to the top but Lee interrupted with a palm strike and then hit a superplex off the second rope, but Moxley rolled him up for two. Moxley dumped Lee back outside and went for a diving ax handle (or something) but Lee caught him and duplexes him through some giant prop cards (a straight flush, spades, ace high). Then he bodyslammed Moxley on the wreckage. Lee rolled in the ring for a breather as Moxley had trouble getting up and the announcers sold Moxley needing medical attention.

Eventually, Moxley crawled his way back into the ring but couldn't stand up. Lee went for the powerbomb but Moxley reversed into a waistlock. Lee reversed again with a running big boot and then hit the powerbomb for a very close two-count. After both men sold fo a while, Moxley fired up but fell right back down and crawled out of the ring and up the top of the ramp. Lee followed.

Here's a Look at The Finish

Moley hit Lee with a prop poker chip. Lee returned fire with a kick and went for the powerbomb on the stage.  Moxley broke out and hit a paradigm shift off the top of the stage and down a few stairs and through a section of the wooden ramp. This looked like a really dangerous spot, an inch or two further back and Mox would have cracked the back of his head on a beam. Moxley crawled out first as the refs put gloves on, so it looks like Lee is busted open.

A freshly bladed Lee climbed out of the hole and made his way to the ring. He went for the discus clothesline but Moxley reversed into a paradigm shift. Lee kicked out at two, which enraged Moxley. Moxley pummeled Lee in the head and bit him, then hit another paradigm shift for another two-count. Moxley slapped a rear naked choke on Lee and the ref stopped the match.

The Bottom Line 'Cause Chad Said So

This match delivered more than expected I think, especially since AEW didn't have a lot of time or opportunity to build Lee up as a competitor. There was no wasted time in this match, and a few brutal spots like the back body drop through the table and thee DDT through the stage. The finish was inventive, especially for a heel. Passing out in the hold after kicking out of two paradigm shifts, which followed one through the stage, is as good a way as any to protect Lee in a loss. Moxley got his belt back and all is right in the AEW World. After the match, a commercial for AEW action figures said they'll be out in August.

Stay tuned to Bleeding Cool for one more match in our AEW Double or Nothing live coverage.
