Jordan Alexa Davis is ready to evolve into the next phase of her acting career since emerging as a child star in the Disney Junior animated series Vampirina, voicing Poppy Peepleson, Edgar's (Benji Risley) sister and Edna's (Cree Summer) daughter in the first two seasons. The animated series, based on the Vampirina Ballerina book series by Anne Marie Pace, ran for three seasons from 2017 to 2021. Davis's next major role was a dramatic turn as Sarah Grohl, a witness in a murder, in the Apple TV miniseries Defending Jacob, which follows an assistant district attorney (Chris Evans) and his wife (Michelle Dockery) facing the prospect that their son Jacob (Jaeden Martell) might be a murderer. While promoting her survival thriller film in Warner Bros's The End of Oak Street, Davis spoke to Bleeding Cool to reflect on her legacy on the Chris Nee-created series, and what she enjoyed about her time on the Morten Tyldum film.
Jordan Alexa Davis Reflects on Her Experiences on 'Vampirina' and 'Defending Jacob'
Bleeding Cool: What do you miss about being on 'Vampirina?' Did you meet with your co-stars at all while you're recording your lines?
Davis: Yeah, I mean, you do it separately. You don't record at the same time as them, so that was a challenge, but also cool. We would see each other in passing with whatever your recording window was. When they were leaving, maybe you were coming in. So, you got to each other, and that was nice. It was fun being able to make something for kids while still being a kid myself. I was 12 when I started that, so that was really fun. Chris Nee, who created all that, was amazing and awesome, so it was all around just a great experience.
You've got to branch out and do an Apple TV miniseries, 'Defending Jacob.' What did you enjoy doing in that drama, working alongside Chris Evans?
Yeah, that was really cool too. That was my first bigger on-screen role, so it was a lot of firsts and newness with that one too. [Chris] was also amazing, and I feel like I learned so much from him. Super down-to-earth guy, but so talented also, so he was great, yeah.
Are there any dream projects, maybe genres or franchises, that you hope to do in the future?
Ooh, yeah, I mean, I'm pretty open to anything. I love movies so much. I'm a AMC Stubs (member), as I go to the movies all the time. I love original stories; I feel like this has been a really good year for original films and stories, so anything where the characters are interesting, different, and original. With genres, I'm not picky.
The End of Oak Street, which also stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery, is in theaters. Vampirina, which also features the voices of Isabella Crovetti, Lauren Graham, James Van Der Beek, Michell Whitfield, Wanda Sykes, Ashleigh Ball, and ViviAnn Yee, is available on Disney+. Defending Jacob, which also stars Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, Betty Gabriel, Sakina Jaffrey, and J. K. Simmons, is available on Apple TV.
