I've been hearing this knocking around for a little while, but yesterday, while at MegaCon Live London 2024, I got a more reliable source to confirm the news that Jason Aaron would be writing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at IDW Publishing after their big TMNT #150 finale and a big relaunch for the Turtles' fortieth year of publication.
Jason Aaron, the recent writer of Marvel's Avengers titles, has currently taken over the Superman comic books at DC Comics. He first wrote Jane Foster as Thor as well as writing Ghost Rider, Wolverine, X-Men, Star Wars, Punisher, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Conan and more for Marvel Comics. He also has creator-owned comic books Scalped and The Other Side from DC Comics and Southern Bastards, The Goddamned, Sea of Stars, from Image Comics. And recently Once Upon a Time at the End of the World from Boom Studios.
Expect an announcement any day now. Heroes In A Scalped Shell, anyone? Could it be May? How about June? Definitely before San Diego Comic-Con in July…
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits #150 in April, and IDW Publishing has confirmed that the double-sized issue will be the finale for the monthly series. With IDW saying "Written by acclaimed author Sophie Campbell, the massive, epic and emotional Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #150 is the must-read conclusion of the ongoing series – fear not, shellheads, because more will be revealed about what's next for TMNT soon! This momentous milestone issue will feature art by Armageddon Game's Vincenzo Federici and longtime TMNT creatives, colourist Ronda Pattison and letterer Shawn Lee. Returning for this giant issue are former series artists Dan Duncan, Fero Pe, and Campbell."
As for what follows, "This climactic comic will pave the way for the next mutation of TMNT storytelling from IDW Publishing, but before looking forward, it's important to visit the past, just like Donnie. IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ongoing series has presented fans with more than 10 years worth of brilliant and critically-acclaimed tales that captivated both longtime and new TMNT fans with its exciting and heartfelt stories."
