SAG-AFTRA, AMPTP Talks Wrap for Today, Set to Resume on Wednesday

SAG-AFTRA confirmed that negotiations with the AMPTP will continue on Wednesday and urged members to ignore press updates not from SAG-AFTRA.

Nearly two weeks after the studios & streamers "suspended" negotiations with the actors' union over a new three-year deal, the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA resumed talks on Tuesday. Included in the discussions on the AMPTP side were Disney's Bob Iger, NBCUniversal's Donna Langley, Warner Bros Discovery's David Zaslav, Netflix's Ted Sarandos, and AMPTP President Carol Lombardini. SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez, and others were on hand to represent the union. While there are rumblings out there about how today's talks went, SAG-AFTRA confirmed in an official message to its members that talks will continue on Wednesday, October 25th. "Today, the CEOs came back to the table. We are scheduled to continue talks with them tomorrow," the message began. "We will continue to provide updates with you directly. Remember – don't believe anything you read in the press unless it comes directly from us. Keep showing up on the picket lines and make your voices heard around the country."

Not long after the actors' union and AMPTP announced in a joint statement that negotiations on a new three-year contract would resume today at the union's headquarters, SAG-AFTRA released a statement to its membership, making it clear that it was the studios & streamers who "asked us to return to the table." The statement continued, "It is clear that the strength and solidarity shown by our members has sent an unmistakable message to the CEOs. As we have repeatedly said, we are ready, willing, and able to engage on a moment's notice to meet and to work across the table to achieve a deal that is worthy of your sacrifice. Including this morning, just as our bi-annual SAG-AFTRA Convention is underway." The update also included a warning to members to avoid any potential "noise" regarding the upcoming talks and "do not believe anything you hear until it comes from us." The SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee ended its message with a rallying cry to its members: "We are focused. We are determined. We will not waver. One day longer. One day stronger. As long as it takes."
