Milo Manara's Caravaggio Vol 2, Confirmed at Lucca for February 2019
In April 2015, comic book writer and artist Milo Manara published the first volume of Caravaggio, a graphic novel based on the life of 16th/17th century Italian artist.
Three-and-a-half years later, announced at LUCCA Comics & Games this weekend, as part of Panini Italia's Made In Comics panel, the second and final volume is now confirmed as being published in February 2019.
An unforgettable work. An unimaginable life. Wounded, feverish and in exile after his confrontation against Ranuccio, Caravaggio left Rome to find refuge with a troupe of acrobats. The painter takes advantage of his convalescence to bond with the beautiful and fierce Ipazia, which will serve as a future inspiration. While their caravan stops in Naples, Caravaggio realizes that it is both famous and sought after throughout Italy. Between the relatives of Ranuccio who seek revenge and the sponsors of his paintings left unfinished, the painter did not become only admirers and shares his life between the palette and the sword. His only hope of obtaining, through papal grace, a sesame to return to Rome is to enter the prestigious order of the Knights of Malta. It's a new journey ahead … Susceptible, impetuous, hedonistic and brawling, Caravaggio is not only the master of chiaroscuro and one of the greatest painters in the history of art is also the author of an adventure life at least as incredible as his work. With this second volume, Milo Manara completes his masterpiece: paying tribute to the greatest artist of his time in an ode to art and beauty.
English speaking audiences can expect Dark Horse Comics to translate and publish this volume in due course.
