Trump Moves Fake News Awards to Coincide with Birthday of Mob Boss Al Capone
Failing to listen to the advice of Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, it looks like Donald Trump is planning to go ahead with his Fake News Awards, a celebration of "the most & biased of the Mainstream Media." However, it looks like the awards show is already in trouble, as Trump has announced that they will not be revealed on Monday, as originally planned, but will instead take place on Wednesday, January 17th, a full nine days later. Trump announced the delay on Twitter:
Trump claimed that the delays were due to increased demand and importance of the awards, but Bleeding Cool has learned that the new date actually coincides with the birthday of infamous mob boss Al Capone. Capone's seven-year reign over organized crime in Chicago is legendary, and it's surely no coincidence that President Trump chose his birthday for the award ceremony.
Like Trump, Capone was a notorious hater of the certain segments of the press, both for reporting on his criminal activities and also for branding him with the nickname "Scarface." Capone argued that his scars were war wounds, but like President Trump, Capone never served in the military. However, Capone adored press that gave him favorable coverage, like The Chicago Evening American, the Fox & Friends of the Prohibition era. Additionally, like Trump, in his old age, Capone was revealed by a psychiatrist to have the mentality of a 12-year-old, and both men had problems with their tax returns.
It's unknown where the Fake News Awards will take place. Presumably, Trump will simply tweet them out Wednesday morning while taking a dump, but it's not inconceivable that he could be teaming with Fox News or even Breitbart to put together an actual broadcast. Yes, that seems unlikely, but everything Trump has done seems incredibly unlikely, and that hasn't stopped him yet.
