Tony Lee, International Man Of Mystery

He's dumped the 'waistcoat and tie' look, and every time I've seen him in the Hyatt bar at San Diego Comic Con, he's sipping soft drinks. This year seems to be the year that Tony Lee has changed up his look and attitude, and from what we hear, his upcoming work might not be in comics.

As we said on Wednesday, with Justin Jordan gone from Superboy, Tony is one of the few names we keep hearing in connection with the title, and the meeting our little bleeder saw (before the convention even started) with Tony, Bobbie Chase, Bob Harras and Eddie Berganza in the Hyatt bar goes a long way to giving this credibility. I've broken stories with less.

But is it just DC that Tony has been courting? From what we hear, Tony has spent most of his time at the Omni Hotel, in particular the Wired Cafe, the meeting place for pretty much everyone involved in Film and TV production, and one of my army of spies saw him on Friday in the lobby bar with Irene Yeung of Vertigo Films, the people behind Monsters, Bronson(and Street Dance among others), now venturing into television with Bates Motel for A&E with a first look deal with Fox 21, pitching and discussing a new show. Whether this was Hourmen, the TV series pitch that we're hearing he's developing with MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff, or the Danger Academy live action series adaptation that we've heard mutterings of this weekend or even something new involving a 21st Century retelling of a gothic classic we don't know, but what is known is that we've heard his name more times against upcoming in-development shows than any other comic writer this weekend.

Is 2013 the year that Tony Lee leaves comics? It's true that Doctor Who is gone from IDW now, but if the Superboy rumours are true, then Tony might have to spend a lot of time over the next couple of years jumping from one side of the comic con fence to the other…

Tony, as ever, declined to comment when I asked him about this last night, instead diverting me with a story about Sean O'Reilly, George R R Martin, a special coin and an elevator…
