Preview: Jim Henson's The Musical Monsters Of Turkey Hollow By Roger Langridge
I got a good glimpse of this at San Diego Comic Con (before my hotel room was flooded, washing it away…)
The Musical Monsters Of Turkey Hollow, adapted from a never-made TV script by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl, Roger Langridge has attempted to recreate a unmade musical muppetal TV Thanksgiving script from the sixties into full-blown comics.
Wild muppets, discovered in the autumn landscape who respond to music and slowly begin to integrate themselves in the human town of Turkey Hollow, but not without some major misunderstandings along the way.
With muppets living in the natural outdoor environment, designed and coloured to match, and told in a blaze of yellow, browns and reds. Black inks are knocked back by Ian Herring in favour of brown, dark reds and blues. And colour is used as a way to simulate the effects of music and song in a very unmusical medium, creating a whole new visual language.
And on Wednesday, Archaia/Boom! are publishing it. If you have interest in what comics can do when challenged – as well as some Muppet archaeology – you owe it to yourself to buy this comic.
Here's a look at a few sequential pages…
