Towerfall Developer Includes Anita Sarkeesian Inspired Character In New DLC

So, yesterday it was Law and Order, today it's Towerfall. Anita Sarkeesian inspired characters are turning up in some pretty odd places. I suppose it's all timely though as Sarkeesian accepted the Harvard Humanist of the Year award just this weekend.

But back to Towerfall. The new Dark World DLC is set to drop soon, so the development team have been giving fans updates as production progresses. On the Towerfall's Tumblr it was announced that the DLC will include 10 new archers. The curious thing is that one of the archers is inspired by the Tropes Vs. Video Games host. Here is what they had to say about the character:

Anita's work has been an inspiration to the TowerFall team. Her "Tropes vs Women in Games" video series gave us a valuable new lens through which to assess our character designs. TowerFall is about bringing people together, so it's vitally important that the cast of playable characters makes everyone feel invited to join in. Simply put, this wouldn't have occurred to me if not for Anita, and feedback from players has reinforced how important it really is. We're very excited to immortalize Anita in a small way, as the alternate Last of the Order.

This is all sounds cool to me. Towerfall is a ludicrously fun game and the developer paying tribute to a critic who forced them to consider their design is pretty nifty. I don't think the character really looks too much like Anita, but I can see the inspitation.

Towerfall is a great multiplayer game by the way. If you haven't tested it out with a few friends on PC, PlayStation 4 or maybe even an Ouya, I'd rectify that.
