Batman Sacrifices Secret Identity to Honor WBD's House of the Dragon
Late last week, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) CEO David Zaslav sent an email to staff congratulating them in a number of areas for the way they approached marketing Ryan Condal & Miguel Sapochnik's ten-episode "Game of Thrones" prequel series House of the Dragon. Heading into this weekend, the marketing had reached 130 million people in the U.S., making it the largest marketing campaign drive in the cable network's history (and reportedly larger than the marketing push for the final season of Game of Thrones). And if we're being completely honest? We're sooooooooooo ready for the show to premiere because it feels like the hype has been going on for three years. But now, the day is at hand, and to honor the show's debut, WBD is having everyone under the company's ownership with a social media account post "House" banners in support of HOTD. I mean, everyone. And if you have any doubt that WBD is going all-in in a major way when it comes to this series, look no further than what they forced Batman to do. Yup, from The Dark Knight's social media account, we have a "House Wayne" banner. Now while that may not be as obvious as… say… posting directions to the Batcave via Wayne Manor, we need to ask. Is this any way to keep a secret identity… well… secret?
Here's a look at the tweet in question (with the hope that this is enough of a cry for help on Bruce's part for Alfred to stage some kind of intervention):
And just in case you need a better look (or a cleaner version that you can save and pass along to the Joker, the Riddler, Scarecrow… you know, the folks you would want having such essential intel:
Here's a look at highlights from Zaslav's email to the company (Deadline Hollywood first posted the email exclusively here):
"Casey, Francesca, Janet, Glenn, Zach, and the entire HBO team have shepherded what looks to be the next big cultural moment. I had a chance to watch the premiere in Los Angeles with Casey and the team and was blown away by the quality of the production, richness of the story, and power of the action. It is something we should all be really proud of, and we cannot wait to share it with audiences worldwide."
"This was the largest marketing campaign in HBO's history – we reached nearly 130 million people in the U.S. alone. It has also been exciting to see teams across the company work collaboratively with the HBO team in what has been an unprecedented cross-promotional campaign. And we've done all of this in just a few short months, clearly showing what we can accomplish when our networks, streaming platforms, digital and social channels, all work collectively in support of one shared priority. We can really move the needle and I can't wait to see what we will do on future campaigns when we harness the full reach and unique opportunities we bring to the table."
"We are committed to building one team with one mission – the third of three strategic priorities I highlighted in our recent earnings call – and the efforts in support of the launch of House of the Dragon are a great indication of how strong we are and what we can do when we work together."
And here's a look back at the previously-released SDCC extended trailer and official trailer:

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON – MAIN CAST:
Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather's legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.
Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the throne. A peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air…
Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.
Emma D'Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the king's first-born child, she is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything… but she was not born a man.
Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, "The Sea Snake." Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As "The Sea Snake," the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.
Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, a dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, "The Queen Who Never Was" was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.
Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, of Dornish descent, the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. Cole has no claim to land or titles; all he has to his name is his honor and his preternatural skill with a sword.
Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, who came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can recall. She could have wilted… but instead she rose to become the most trusted — and most unlikely — ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.
Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower. The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king's brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.
