Chicago Cake – A New Small Press Festival
Greg Baldino writes for Bleeding Cool
It's a good year to be a comics fan in Chicago. In addition to C2E2, Wizard World, a plethora of comic shops and numerous events throughout the city; this year sees the Windy City gain its own indie comics showcase: CAKE: The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo.
The expo has posted the exhibitor list, featuring a mix of creators both established and up and coming. Special guests include Jeffrey Brown , Anne Elizabeth Moore, Lucy Knisley, Laura Park, Julia Wertz, Nate Powell, and Jeremy Tinder, among others. In addition to the exhibiting artists and publishers posted, still more are promised.
Inspired by events like Portland's Stumptown Comics Fest and the Toronto Comics Arts Festival, CAKE is a curated event, focusing on independent creators of diverse expression. Several of the event's team have been involved with the highly successful Chicago Zine Fest, now in it's third year.
CAKE, held this June on the 16th and 17th at 1104 S. Wabash, promises to be a welcome addition to a city with comics in its blood.

Greg Baldino is grateful that Chicago is finally getting an indie comics show of its own, so that Toronto and Portland can stop lording their own over his head. At least we don't put ketchup on our hotdogs. Weirdos. Follow him at twitter.com/gregbaldino
