Archie #1 Enters The Top 10 For July 2015, As Marvel Maintains 15 Point Marketshare Lead On DC Comics, But Both Slip
Last month, Marvel Comics was June's top publisher with a 40.86% dollar share and a 43.16% unit share, maintaining their over-15 point lead on DC Comics who are on 25.06% dollar share and a 28.03% unit share.
This month that lead has been maintained but both publisher's marketshare has slipped with Marvel down to 38.43% and 41.59% share to DC Comics' 23.94% and 24.30% shares. In comparison, Image Comics have maintained their 10% share. It is IDW which outperforms this month, juumping from last month's 5.18% and 3.86% shares to 6.60% and 5.28% shares and Archie also makes a jump on the back of the Archie #1 relaunch with Mark Waid and Fiona Staples as a 1% share leaps to a 2.5% share. Valiant saw their unit share jump from under 1% to 1.5% but heavy discounting saw their retail share not chart. And Oni charted for both with over 1% shares where last month they were nowhere to be seen.
July was a five week month but it didn't outperform June's four week month as you might expect and it was down on July 2014. But the year to date still outperforms 2014 so far by over 11%, so overall sales seem in pretty good nick….
Secret Wars took the top spot, with four crossovers on top in the top ten, Star Wars took another three titles and Batman was DC's only entry, but the big surprise has to be Archie #1, the 7th highest ordered book that month. And the only time that I can recall that an Archie comic has entered the top ten.
