Bleeding Cool Bestseller Chart – Eternal Rings Out

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Batman Eternal takes the top once more, even with stiff Walking Dead competition this week. While the Diamond charts looking at sales to comic stores has shown Batman Eternal towards the bottom of the top ten for the month, the comic stays at the top of these charts measuring actual sales…

Doomed doesn't do too bad either, lifting the Superbooks above their usual level.

Nice to have the first 3 parts of SUPERMAN DOOMED to turn customers to. Made for a satisfying read. Everyone was going nuts for WALKING DEAD #127, and while we had raised our #'s for the issue, it still wasn't enough.

The Doomed crossover is currently a hit. People are buying all three parts of it this week. Might have been a good sales move having the three different books that crossover with Doomed coming out at once. Constantine is gaining popularity thanks to a certain upcoming T.V. show with his name on it. DC's weekly series are very popular. All New X Men still holds strong after all this time.

Nice small week, gave customers a bit of a breather. Walking Dead was the clear winner this week. Batman Eternal is still a strong seller and have little drop off from customers.

Superior Spider-Man back-issues still moving since the return of Peter Parker. Still on the shelf Nailbiter and The Woods are getting picked up in droves. Should burn through the rest of the cases in the next week or so.

Batman Eternal came in at #1 again, but showed signs of slowing. Futures End also had a strong showing this week. Lumberjanes #2 had dismal sales, but #1 also did poorly the first few days,then needed to be reordered a week and a half later.

DC'S strategy of weekly series seems to be paying off in terms of securing top sales spots in both shops. Afterlife with Archie makes a strong return showing. And while Walking Dead #127 is doing well like most WD issues do, we are not seeing additional consumer demand making me think that the fast sellout at the distributor level was more about retailers speculating on future demand rather than retailers underordering the book in the first place. We always increase our WD orders for chapter one of a new arc so feel prepared–but honestly, this issue has sold on the same pattern as previous issues and the whole "sold out" hype feels more like market manipulation. (Though Image could probably have increased their initial orders in the first place by soliciting this as a new jumping on point with a new status quo.)

Batman Eternal #6 topped our list this week followed by Superman Doomed #1 which sold more copies than any issue of Superman or Action Comics in the past 12 months. Although Action Comics #31 and Superman Wonder Woman #8 are both "DOOMED" tie-ins, Action Comics sold 7 copies more. Will the customers who passed on Superman Wonder Woman #8 be back for this book next week? Avengers #29, which is an Original Sin tie-in, sold very well even at $4.99 a copy. Walking Dead #27 made our top ten list at #10

Walking Dead was big, but sold multiple copies to people, so the sales are inflated. People are very interested in Superman/Doomsday. The DC weeklies are going very strong. People liked Original Sin, but they are wary of the crossovers (55 total issues according to their checklists.) No bump for the Avengers tie-in.

Crazy week in books! Word of mouth about how crazy Avengers #29 was made that one of our top books of the week. Tons of customers who hadn't been following those books in a while scooped it up. DC's weekly books are holding steady, with customers seeming to be happier with Batman Eternal than Futures End. Expecting some drop off next week with the latter. Great to see Millar & Parlovs Starlight doing so well, it's selling more than some big name Marvel & DC titles. Some customers opted out of DC's SUPERMAN DOOMED storyline because they released 3 parts in one week. Customers have a budget and when a publisher tries taking such a large part of that budget in one week it definitely will make or break a customer trying out a book. Escape from Jesus Island #2 did awesome this week too. We literally had people waiting at the door on Wednesday morning to pick up t! he regular & Phantom variants. That book has some serious fan support!

Still selling Image trades 5 to 1 over Marvel & DC. One day the big 2 might learn that the $9.99 volume 1 is a magical thing. This is also translating into bigger numbers for Image single issues as customers catch up in trades and switch to floppies.
