Graphic Audio to Make Audio Dramas out of Archie Comics
Archie Comics is entering the world of audio dramas with Archie: Will you Marry Me, a Graphic Audio adaptation of the famed Archie wedding storyline. Archie revealed the news in a press release on Monday:
Graphic Audio, a premier audio brand of industry leader RBmedia, has recently completed a licensing deal with comic book publisher Archie Comics. The groundbreaking 'ARCHIE in WILL YOU MARRY ME?' Storyline, also known as 'THE ARCHIE WEDDING,' will be the first of several graphic novel collections that Graphic Audio will be releasing in their dramatized adaptation audiobook format.
We're not 100% convinced on the audio drama made from a comic concept. It seems a lot like those scented markers. Sure, it may smell like a strawberry, but when you try to eat it, all you get is a red mouth, mild ink poisoning, and an obstructed colon. Likewise, is a comic really a comic if you take away the thing that makes it a comic in the first place: the pictures?
Alas, the big-brained executives behind this move have other ideas, according to the press release.
"We're looking forward to presenting classic and modern Archie Comics in our dramatized audiobook format and for generations young and old to experience THE ARCHIE WEDDING in our immersive way of storytelling," said Anji Cornette, Vice President of Graphic Audio.
"Our goal at Archie is to make these stories and characters available wherever readers, listeners, and fans are gathering," added Archie Comics co-president Alex Segura. "Audiobooks are a growing, vibrant medium and it made sense to partner with the leader in the comic book audiobook space, GraphicAudio. Starting with one of our most historic stories, the Archie Wedding, was the best opening move. We're so excited to get this ambitious program off the ground."
Well, different strokes for different folks, that's what we like to say.
After the Archie wedding audio drama, Graphic Audio will adapt Vampironica and Mark Waid's grim and gritty Archie reboot next.
