Valiant's Book Of Death Variants Revisit Another Famous Comics Death….
From the twitter of Valiant Comics CEO himself comes validation for the Ultimate Comics retailer variant not-actually-polybagged covers for Valiant Book Of Death.
Does that look familiar to you? How about the back?
Ultimate Comics owner Alan Gill came up with the idea to replicate the look and style of our favorite '90s polybagged event comic books. The first cover is a bloody reproduction of the classic Death of Superman issue, replaced with Valiant's iconic "V' logo instead.
The cover and backcover have been designed to mirror not only the text, logo and font style but Ultimate's art director Jason Strutz also added a slight "crinkle" effect to give the book the illusion of being actually polybagged. These are limited to 1500 printed copies.
Next up is the "platinum" Ultimate Edition Book of Death. This features a cover with the bloody Valiant logo printed in silver, shiny ink. Again, created with a sense of nostalgia as a throwback to the "chromium" and "foil-embossed" covers of old, this Ultimate Edition Book of Death is being printed in an extremely limited quantity.
Both books were be released to the public this week and Ultimate Comics has the event to tie it all together. On August 1st Ultimate Comics celebrates their 12th anniversary by having Book of Death writer Robert Venditti and Book of Death artist Robert Gill for two exclusive signings.
The grand opening of Ultimate Comics Raleigh is from 10am-Noon and then 1-4pm at Ultimate Comics Durham for signings, give-aways, music, and all things Book of Death….
