'The Crown' Casts Princess Diana for Netflix Series
We've been waiting for Netflix to reveal who will be playing the People's Princess Diana Spencer in The Crown, and we've FINALLY got an answer.
Meet Emma Corrin, a "newcomer", who will reportedly make her debut in season 4 of the series, not season 3.
"Beyond excited and honored to be joining The Crown for its fourth season," Corrin said in a statement."I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!"
The first two seasons of the series followed the House of Windsor from 1947 to 1956 and 1957 to 1964 respectively, with season 3 expected to do similarly, and cover the next decade-plus.
Season 3 will see Olivia Coleman as Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Coleman steps in for Claire Foy, and Menzies for Matt Smith, who played the royal pair for the first two seasons of the series.
Helena Bonham Carter is joining season 3 as Princess Margaret, and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Margaret's husband. Vanessa Kirby played Princess Margaret in seasons 1 and 2, with Matthew Goode as Armstrong-Jones.
Emerald Fennell will be playing Camilla Parker Bowles, longtime companion and second wife of Prince Charles (who will be played by Josh O'Connor in season 3).
We're pretty excited for the series to return, and curious to see how the casting switch-up works out.
While we still don't have a set release date for season 3 of The Crown yet, it does sound like sometime this year is likely.
