5 Hours To Go For New Swords Of The Swashbucklers Comics And A Look Inside The Collection

We are in the final five hours of the kickstarter to collect the fan-favorite series Swords of the Swashbucklers from Bill Mantlo and Jackson Guice. And by fan-favorite, those fans include Marc Guggenheim, Greg Pak, Chris Ryall and Cullen Bunn who have all talked about the influence of Bill Mantlo with us over the last week or two. And where the tragic turn that Mantlo's life took is a big part of this project and his continued nursing care… it seemed more than time to show some of the interior pages from Jackson Guice from the classic series and graphic novel.

You may know him as Butch Guice, but he broke into the industry in the 1980s as Jackson and made a name for him self on series like Swords of the SwashbucklersRom, ,Micronauts, and X-Factor. Guice became a perrenial favorite at Marvel and DC Comics. Throughout the years, he has illustrated pages of Action Comics, Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, JLA Classified, New Mutants, Uncanny X-Men, and many more.

And while the series is best known for Guice's work, he ended up doing the initial graphic novels and the first four issues. The book was then taken over by Geof Isherwood for issues 5-8, 10 and 12 and Colleen Doran came on to do issues 9 and 11.

Currently there is a stretch goal to make a new Swords of the Swashbucklers project with Guice and the Mantlo family involved. The Collection is funded, but a new series will not only give us a chance to see more stories with these characters… but the royalties from those new comics will continue to help Mantlo with his around the clock health care cost. If you are interested, check out the kickstarter as it ends in a few hours.
