Jonesy #1 Sells Out Double Initial Orders
Boom! Studios sent an official press release out this morning announcing Jonesy #1 has sold out at the distributor level with which, respectfully, we informed you of last week. The press release mentions that Jonesy saw an "impressive 46% increase" from initial orders to their Final Order Cutoff numbers. The Final Order Cutoff variant by Bryan Lee O'Malley (Scott Pilgrim, Seconds) probably helped a bit there. Then the debut saw another 25% increase thanks for the In Store Convention Kickoff exclusive variant cover.
I've done a bit of digging and math to determine the numbers behind those percentages. The initial orders appear just over 5,300 copies. After FOC and reorders, they shot up to almost 7,900 copies. The In Store Convention Kickoff cover added another 2,100 copies, which I'm told was allocated based on actual orders. That brought the total up to 10,000 copies sold to retailers, nearly double its initial orders.
It's worth noting because the BOOM! Box imprint has a pattern of being underestimated by retailers. We've seen these big jumps in orders and rapid sell outs before, most notably in the early days of Lumberjanes and Giant Days, which are now successful ongoing series.
If this is another case of the BOOM! Box audience materializing at release, your store may get short on Jonesy #2.
