Responding to the Bane story and the subject of importing details from previous continuities into the current one, the forum's Captain Comet has an excellent and susinct take on the matter: "I've always had my own personal continuity myself. If I think it's canon then in my own personal DCU it's canon, even if it's elseworlds or Golden Age or whatever. Same goes for things I dont like. If I read a bad issue I just ignore it and dont let it impact the good stuff."

Yeah, I think that's how you do that.
