English language manga publisher TokyoPop has announced a new comics and children's book imprint, TokyoPop Learning. The new imprint will focus on books and learning materials for young readers ages 10 and up. Teaming with the Japanese educational company Gakken Inc, they aim to focus on areas with so-called "learning gaps". Stu Levy, CEO and Founder of TokyoPop, said in a statement, "Manga is how millions of young people choose to engage with content, and it's a trend that is growing quickly around the world. With this new imprint, we will create modern educational materials to give students an authentic pathway to building knowledge." Katsuhiro Takiguchi, corporate officer of Gakken Inc., added, "At Gakken Inc., we believe learning should be an enjoyable journey, and our work with TokyoPop allows us to deliver on that belief in a new way. Together, we will create new educational resources that inspire creativity and curiosity."

Their debut collection, Manga Quest, aims to bring educational manga to classrooms, libraries, and homes, "strengthening reading comprehension, vocabulary, and content retention for English learners, reluctant readers, and visual thinkers alike."

TokyPop was founded in 1997 by Stu Levy, originally as Mixx Entertainment and pioneered the current English-language manga market in North America, introducing "unflipped" Japanese-style books and popularising the term "manga" in the West. At its peak in the 2000s, it licensed thousands of titles (like Sailor Moon, Chobits, and Fruits Basket), published original English-language manga, and distributed anime. It faced challenges, briefly shutting down its main US publishing in 2011, but was revived around 2016–2022 under POP Media Holdings.
