We at Bleeding Cool got a chance to work with Wizards of the Coast this week to reveal three of the new Magic: The Gathering cards coming out for the next expansion, Secrets of Strixhaven. Earlier this week, the team revealed several of the cards that will be in the set, along with details of what players can expect as they head back to the School of Mages. Over the next week, you're going to see a lot of cards revealed across several different websites, streaming shows, and reveals from content creators, as we're all excited to see what everyone has to reveal. But for us, it's all about the music as we reveal two different bards: Campus Composer, and Zaffai and the Tempests.

Making Music With Campus Composer, As Well As Zaffai and the Tempests

Let's start with Campus Composer, which is a blue Merfolk Bard beautifully drawn by Madeline Boni. This one comes with the new Prepared mechanic that allows that creature to come into play with a spell ready to go if you pay the extra two mana. In this case, it has a Sorcery spell called Aqueous Aria that creates a 3/3 Red Elemental with flying for five mana. This is a pretty great creature for us that will boost the mid-game creature rollout. As long as you have the mana pool to make it happen, you're essentially getting the ability to cast a creature every turn.

The second card is Zaffai and the Tempests, drawn by Olivier Bernard, as we get to look at the main card and the Booster Fun version. The card features Zaffai, Thunder Conductor, returning from the Commander (2021) set, only this time with a backup band. The Human Bard Sorcerer will cost you seven mana, but if you have a spell-heavy deck, this one is vital as you're getting a free Instant or Sorcery spell on the table without paying its cost (once per turn).

Both of these are pretty awesome additions to Magic: The Gathering, and if this is what we have to look forward to over the next several days, Secrets of Strixhaven may have a lot to teach players when it comes out on April 24, 2026.
