Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Eyeing a $130M-$150M Domestic Debut
If this previous weekend and Solo: A Star Wars Story under performing is that there really isn't a sure thing at the box office right now. People are still throwing out estimates for the big movies of the summer and one of the big ones coming up is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The first movie opened with a huge $208.8 million nearly double the lowest projection that experts originally made. It went on to make over a billion at the worldwide box office. Deadline is reporting that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is looking at making $130-$150 million domestically.
What also clouds some analysts' projections is when a number of event titles arrive on tracking as they're all measured against each other, and that can throw off projections (whether they come from the studio or a rival). While Avengers: Infinity War was the huge opener everyone was expecting, Deadpool 2 filed under its low-end $130M opening projection with $125.5M (which is still great), while Solo: A Star Wars Story was well below its $130M bottom end with a $103M four-day total.
There's also rival movies coming out in that same time period with the biggest being Incredibles 2 the week before. It's a kids movie in the middle of the summer and Pixar movies tend to have legs at the box office. The Incredibles is also one of the most beloved Pixar movies so people are really looking forward to this one. The critical consensus on Jurassic World has not been nearly as kind with some saying the movie doesn't entirely hold up.
Summary: When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, directed by J.A. Bayona, stars Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin, Rafe Spall, B.D. Wong, and Justice Smith. It will be released on June 22nd.
