When Ridley Scott Told Michael Sheen He Was Hardly in "Kingdom Of Heaven" Anymore, At Its Premiere

I've been catching up with a few of Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, or RHLSP as it is now known by the cool kids, as it has broadened location remit. And just listened to the one with guest Michael Sheen (late for the recording as he actually went to the Leicester Square Theatre by mistake – understandable really), he talked with comedian Richard Herring about their respective experiences of fame and being fans of each other's work. Mostly humbling moments rather than anything aggrandising – this is Britain after all.

And Michel Sheen recounted being in Kingdom Of Heaven, written and directed by Ridley Scott, and going to the premiere at Leicester Square (the correct venue), walking along the red carpet and reliving the moment when 'Ridley Scott comes up to me, hello Michael, just to let you know, you're not really in the film any more. And I wasn't. Had to sit there with a big smile on my face all the way through it.

Sheen's performance as the priest was partially restored in the Kingdom Of Heaven's Director's Cut which, among other things had the priest responsible for burying Balian's wife, and stealing her cross, and revealed to actually be Balian's half-brother – later taunting Balian and mocking his passive nature, which later explains why Balian finally snaps and murders him.

Here's his death scene – which is his biggest bit in it.

You can listen to the whole podcast here – and a) you really should b) it is worth subscribing and c) there are over 250 episodes of this extended one guest chat show format that Herring has been mastering for several years now.
