Rashida Jones to Adapt BOOM! Studios' Goldie Vance for 20th Century Fox
20th Century Fox is eyeing a potential new family film franchise based on the BOOM! Studios graphic novel series Goldie Vance. Created by Eisner award-winning writer Hope Larson and artist Brittney Williams, Goldie Vance is a 16-year-old precocious and detail-oriented mixed-race teenager who wants to become the in-house detective at a historical Miami resort. She gets involved with uncovering an international crime ring.
The project is being produced by Kerry Washington's Simpson Street and has Rashida Jones attached to adapt and direct the feature film. Jones currently stars in the TBS series Angie Tribeca and is an executive producer on the TNT dramedy Claws. Simpson Street, which was started in 2016, has a few projects in the works including City of Saints & Thieves, The Mothers and 24-7.
BOOM! recently sold a minority stake to Fox and already has a fist-look deal with the studio that includes the upcoming supernatural thriller The Empty Man. Ross Richie and Stephen Christy will produce from BOOM!, Daria Crecek and Jon Wu will oversee for Fox, Pilar Savone will oversee for Simpson Street. Adam Yoelin will co-produce.
