Image's RunLoveKill – Past And Present Choices Of A Wanted Woman
From Blak Boks LLC collaborators, Eric Canete (The End League, Iron Man: Enter the Mandarin) and Jon Tsuei (Comic Book Tattoo) comes a new book from Image in April 2015, called RunLoveKill according to Image Expo. The story focuses on a wanted woman in hiding named Rain Oshiro, who has 24 hours to escape a barricaded city without being caught by the military forces trying to harm her. The narrative will alternate between Rain's past and present to demonstrate her characters exploration of choices-both good and bad.
Canete spoke about how much effort himself and Tsuei put into the characterization and story in Run Love Kill:
We wanted to take our time to let the whole thing unfold without feeling rushed, and we hope the audience will feel that as they read through the issues. That really is the part that has me the most intrigued and excited- how the story will affect your views and opinions about the characters as we reveal more about them.
Well that's certainly something that I love to hear as a reviewer of comics. I really enjoy knowing that a creative team has the reader in mind when writing. Not to say that this is something that always has to happen, but it should at least happen a little. I think there's definitely room amongst Image's comics for an intense story that focuses on a strong female character.
The idea of the tale being told using both past and present events in the main character's life will definitely allow the reader to connect with Rain on a deep level. I enjoyed when that was done in another one of Image's recent releases, Rasputin. The cover almost looks like its designed in a cool 3D clay-mation style as well. Is it too much to hope the whole thing is done in that style? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
