The Retro 90s Style We Loved In Pokemon TCG Is Back!

img_4088

After a week like this one, it's nice to spend a good chunk of time diving into things that you love. For my boyfriend and I, that means playing the Pokemon Trading Card Game (Pokemon TCG) for hours. Pokemon International + Cassandra Reynoso = two very happy Pokemon TCG addicted players. Over the past month she has been kind enough to keep us stocked with the latest and greatest from Pokemon TCG. It all began with a box that gave us exactly what we've needed at this point in forming our collection:

Pokémon TCG: Heroic Pokémon Tin (Pikachu-EX), which included: A special foil Pikachu-EX card, 4 Pokémon TCG booster packs, and a code card to unlock a playable deck in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online

Pokémon TCG: Mythical Pokémon Tin (Volcanion-EX), which included: A special foil Volcanion-EX card, 4 Pokémon TCG booster packs, and a code card to unlock a playable deck in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online.

If you're looking for a general boost to your overall Pokemon TCG collection, then this set is for you. The usual joy of opening up new packs to see what's inside brought a smile to our faces.

What I'm really excited to share with you, is what the second box included. Get ready for a lovely dose of nostalgia as Pokemon brings back their original card designs. The 90s retro look is back! However, the Pokemon have updated types and moves! So don't be quick to dismiss this awesome new moment for the company because they aren't the same cards you have in your basement. Some might be pretty similar, but there is enough new content to make it worth your while.

Here's what we got:

Pokémon TCG: Pikachu Power Theme Deck which came with a 60 Pokémon card deck, 1 card checklist, 1 metallic coin, 2-player playmat and rulesheet, 1 deck box, damage counters, and a code to play Pokémon Trading Card Game Online.

AND

Pokémon TCG: Mewtwo Mayhem Theme Deck which came with a 60 Pokémon card deck, 1 card checklist, 1 metallic coin, 2-player playmat and rulesheet, 1 deck box, damage counters, and a code to play Pokémon Trading Card Game Online.

She also threw in some Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions Sleeved Booster Packs.

So after all of the excitement of opening news packs, I took the Pikachu deck and my boyfriend took the Mewtwo deck and we played!

I found that both decks included a great balance of Pokemon, energy cards, and trainer cards. As far as the gameplay goes…Call it bad luck, or call it "Christine doesn't know how to deal with grass Pokemon…" but most of the beginning of the game was spent by my Metapod getting destroyed by Drowzee. I honestly think I didn't shuffle my deck enough to be honest with you…

None the less, I couldn't be more excited about this new chapter for the Pokemon TCG. I urge you to go out, grab these decks for yourself, and enjoy! To hold you over, check out this awesome trailer below:
