This Week's Saga Makes You Cheer And Cry (SPOILERS)

By Julz Hendricks

Comic fans have anxiously been waiting to get their Saga fix, and boy did we get it! The first page was in your face, bold and racy, everything that is Saga. In case you are new to the series, Bleeding Cool censored first panel (due to online decency guidelines). Nothing is off limits in this comic, which obviously adds to the overall appeal.

Saga1

Chapter 19 draws us back into the lives of Marco, Hazel and Alana. Marco is talking care of his little spitfire, while Alana is working in The Open Circuit, a virtual reality, live action play. They are hiding out on a planet called Gardenia, or as Hazel puts it "An ugly planet with gorgeous weather." The government of Gardenia has not officially declared a side in the intergalactic, ongoing war, so its really a perfect place free of pursuit. We are again left with a cliff hanger, but that is just how Saga rolls.

Saga2

Brian K Vaughan has perfectly and carefully scripted this, making it a fun ride for new fans without losing his enormous, Saga loving fan base. I have to say, that every issue either makes me want to jump up and down and cheer, or cry pitifully, but not into my near mint copy. Vaughan has hit such a sweet spot and is unstoppable.

Fiona Staples has created this amazing world that I can only compare to the best kind of fairy tale in terms of the overall look. The panels with Hazel are full of pink happiness and the entire comic is visually stunning. This book is beautifully constructed by Vaughan and Staples in every way. I am such a sucker for romance, and it seems like some comics intentionally avoid that aspect of life. Saga dives right in and gives me everything I want in a comic.

Saga, go on with your bad self!
