2 New Images, a Cover, & Plot Details for Men in Black: International
There are a lot of big movies coming out next year but one of them that we haven't seen a lot of is Men in Black: International. We've had a trailer but aside from that, we don't know much about the movie. Entertainment Weekly is here to change that with a new cover story and this time it comes with the added benefit of a lot of pictures of star Tessa Thompson rocking a suit. There are sure to be more images about this cover story coming out but, for now, we have a cover, two images, and some plot details. Thompson says that her character, Molly, has an interaction with the Men in Black that compels her to join the organization.
"The genesis of the whole thing is a young girl whose life had been altered by an encounter with Men in Black," she says, "and the idea is that unlike Will [Smith] in the original films, she's a protagonist who hasn't been recruited but has found them."
That sounds a lot like the beginning of the first movie but that's where the similarities end. While that movie was all about trying to track down a rogue alien, this time we have a mole within the agency that Molly and Agent H, played by Chris Hemsworth, must investigate.
It's Agent O (played by a cool, platinum-haired Emma Thompson) who, according to [producer Walter F.] Parkes, "sees Molly's potential and sends her to London, where there's suspicion that the agency may have been compromised from within. There she's teamed with Chris, the charming and legendary Agent H, [who is] known as one of the greatest to ever wear the suit but who's fallen on some hard times."
It wouldn't be a Men in Black movie without a whole bunch of aliens. Jeremy Woodhead revealed in an interview that "he created somewhere between 400 and 500 individual sketches for production." We also get new alien sidekick named Prawny, voiced by Kumail Nanjiani.
"He's the last survivor of an alien race that had been hiding out on Earth disguised as a chess set, and he has some major self-esteem issues."
As for familiar actors returning, no one is saying one way or another, but we might see some familiar faces when it comes to the aliens.
"Don't be surprised if you see the Worm Aliens make a brief appearance," says Parkes.
There should be more details, images, and other things coming out over the next few days about Men in Black: International. Hemsworth and Thompson had great chemistry in Thor: Ragnarok and it should be a lot of fun to see them on screen together again.
Summary:The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.
Men in Black: International, directed by F. Gary Gray, stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Rebecca Ferguson, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, and Kumail Nanjiani. It will be released on June 14, 2019.
