Interview with the Vampire S02: Jacob Anderson on Louis/Armand, Lestat
Interview with the Vampire star Jacob Anderson discusses Louis & Armand's Season 2 dynamic, comparing it with Lestat, and more.
Last week, we started to get some new insights into the second season of Rolin Jones' (Perry Mason, Weeds) Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Delainey Hayles & Eric Bogosian-starring Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire (set to hit AMC screens sometime in 2024). During a recent interview, Anderson discussed the main themes for this season, as well as the dynamic between Louis (Anderson) and Claudia (Hayles) now that Lestat (Reid) is "gone." In addition, Anderson teased how Louis' experiences this season impacted him personally, how the Dubai storyline is going to get "really explosive," and more. Now, Anderson is touching upon Louis' relationship with Armand (Assad Zaman) and why viewers should judge it on its own and not by Louis & Lestat's relationship.
Anderson on Louis & Armand's "Ever-Shifting Relationship": "Their relationship is really interesting, and it's one of the things that I'm most excited about people seeing this season. It really evolves and changes as they get to know each other. They definitely hit it off — they have a real chemistry when they first meet. Armand would appear to be very different to Lestat, and I think he's more than a rebound, let's put it that way. But there's definitely residual trust issues and perhaps dynamics repeated, but not necessarily in the way that you think. They just click, and they're not even really sure why they're drawn to each other, but it's an ever-shifting relationship as the season goes on."
Anderson Louis' Connection with Armand Being Different from Lestat: "It is something that Assad and I thought about before we started shooting, but then realized really quickly that the only way that this would work would be to not make any comparisons. It is part of the text that there are comparisons made and definitely their relationship is a response to Louis and Lestat's relationship, but Assad and I have a completely different relationship to mine and Sam's relationship, and obviously, it's acting, but we made a decision very early on to not try and replicate anything from that first [season]. Tangibly, it has to feel like a different thing. Otherwise, you wouldn't understand why Louis would pick that relationship again."
With the second season set for 2024, here's a look back at the extended clip from the second season of AMC's Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire along with an official overview – followed by a look at what else we know about the upcoming season:
The interview continues. In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy. Picking up from the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen fledgling Claudia conspired to kill the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, Louis tells of his adventures in Europe, a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, with Claudia. It is in Paris that Louis first meets the Vampire Armand. Their courtship and love affair will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future, and Molloy will probe to get to the truths buried within the memories.
