Star Trek: Discovery: SXSW Site Posts Season 5 Episode 1 Overview

With the final season kicking off in April 2024, here's the episode overview for Paramount+'s Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 1.

Back in the beginning of December, fans of Star Trek: Discovery got a lot of updates during CCXP 2023 in Brazil, with series star Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham) and co-showrunner & executive producer Michelle Paradise on hand to drop some intel on the adventures ahead – along with a new cast photo and that the final season will premiere in April 2024. As for surprises, that came in the form of a sneak preview clip that saw Burnham (Martin-Green) and Book (David Ajala) get a little too up-close-and-personal with a deadly creature with cloaking abilities. Now, thanks to SXSW 2024 (March 8-16) – where the series will be having a world premiere screening of the first episode of the final season – we have an overview of Season 5 Episode 1 to pass along.

Reported to be titled S05E01: "Red Directive," the Olatunde Osunsanmi-directed & Paradise-written season opener's SXSW logline/overview reads: "Captain Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to retrieve a mysterious 800-year-old Romulan vessel; until the artifact hidden inside is stolen, leading to an epic chase. Meanwhile, Saru is offered the position of a lifetime, and Tilly's efforts to help pull her into a tangled web of secrecy." Let the speculation begin…

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Previews & Overviews

Set to hit screens in April 2024, the fifth and final season of Paramount+'s Star Trek: Discovery will find Captain Burnham (Martin-Green) and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well … dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it. Here's a look at an exclusive clip from the final season, as well as Martin-Green, Ajala, and Blu Del Barrio (Adira Tal) taking us behind the scenes for some more clues to what we can expect:

The cast for the fifth season includes Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland "Book" Booker), Blu del Barrio (Adira) and Callum Keith Rennie (Rayner). Paramount+'s Star Trek: Discovery is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers. Kurtzman and Paradise serve as co-showrunners.
