Not that it's needed these days, but it's always an extra step in class whenever a new actor takes over an iconic franchise role, it speaks volumes when he/she/they contact the originator of the role as a courtesy and that's what David Boreanaz did by contacting Gigi Garner, the daughter of the late James Garner, the star of the acclimated crime drama series The Rockford Files as the private investigator, James Rockford for the NBC reboot pilot. Boreanaz, who vaulted into superstardom as Angel in the supernatural action series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and starred in its spinoff that shares his character's name, has had regular success on episodic television with his memorable roles on Fox's crime procedural Bones, and most recently, the Paramount+ action war drama series SEAL Team.

The Rockford Files: Gigi Garner on David Boreanaz Contacting Her to Get Her Blessing
Garner shared her interaction with Boreanaz on social media, "So, I recently got a call from David Boreanaz. He was kind enough to share that he was offered the series & thinking about it. He wanted to know how I felt about the reboot, etc… If anybody can do it, HE CAN! I'm 💯 on board! It is going to be great! #PureClass #Jimbo." The original NBC detective drama was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell and starred James Garner as the former convict-turned-Los Angeles PI with Noah Beery Jr playing his father, Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, a retired truck driver. Huggins had previously worked with Garner on the Western series Maverick (1957-1862). The series, which also starred Joe Santos, Gretchen Corbett, and Stuart Morgolin, ran for six seasons (1974-1980) on NBC and eight TV movies (the final in 1999) that ran on rival CBS. As a contemporary update, The Rockford Files reboot comes from writer Mike Daniels, producers Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, and Universal Television. The trio, along with Chris Leanza, will also act as executive producers, with Boreanaz acting as a producer.
