Amy Poehler's Paper Kite Nabs Film Rights To Unpublished Young Adult Novel About Teen Feminist Revolution
Paper Kite, the production company of Amy Poehler and former Comedy Central executive Brook Posch, behind the Comedy Central show Broad City, has picked up the film rights to Moxie, a young adult novel by Jennifer Mathieu "about a girl who takes inspiration from her mother's stories of the Riot Grrrl movement of the 90's to start her own anonymous zine, sparking a modern-day feminist revolution at her small-town Texas high school."
In a report on Variety about the pickup, Roaring Book Press senior editor Katherine Jacobs says of the author, "Jennifer writes with a voice so authentic to the teenage experience that it feels like her characters walked straight out of a high school classroom and into the pages of her books. She is poised to become one of the most important writers for young adults working today."
In a twist that would make Mark Millar proud, the book hasn't even been published yet! It's set to be released on September 19 by Roaring Book Press, but it's already got a movie deal. Perhaps Mathieu could have a future in comics?
