Toby Kebbell Joins the Cast of Bloodshot
The adaption of the Valiant comic Bloodshot has gained a new cast member. First reported by The Wrap and confirmed by Variety, Toby Kebbell has joined the movie in an unknown role. Vin Diesel, Eiza Gonzalez, Michael Sheen, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, and Alex Hernandez have all signed on to star in the Sony Pictures adaptation. Dave Wilson is set to direct, and Neal H. Moritz has signed on to produce.
"Bloodshot," first published in 1992, centers on a mortally wounded soldier with powers of regeneration and meta-morphing made possible through nano-machines in his bloodstream. "Bloodshot" was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton for Valiant. Over its comic-book run, "Bloodshot" totaled 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold.
The movie currently has no release date but is rumored to start production this July. Sony is looking to start a new cinematic universe starring a bunch of Valiant characters with Diesel's Bloodshot to kick the entire thing off. We can hope that they focus on making a good movie first, since the last time Sony put the cart in front of the horse Marvel Studios swept in to try to take Spider-Man back. It's optimistic to go for a shared universe right away — you need a solid foundation to build on first, and we can hope Sony has learned its lesson from the Amazing Spider-Man series.
