A Family Portrait: Three Reasons Why You Should Read The Joyners

The news of The Joyners being released serialized might not be exciting for those of you who've already encountered it. However, it was a treat for me because I'd never read it before. I was skeptical when I read the description, but after diving in, I found myself really enjoying it. If you're looking for a reason to pick up the first issue on Wednesday, here are three…

One: R.J. Ryan writes an excellent script. The writing is thorough and paints a realistic picture of how a marriage can fail, and how many people it affects in doing so. It's emotional, heartfelt, and true.

Two: Main character George is interesting to watch. There's a full page illustration about half-way through the comic where George's brain is illustrated. His thoughts are separated into percentages, totaling 100, which allows the readers to really get inside his head! We know what he's thinking, and we know what his priorities are. Joyners_001_PRESS-7

Three: The art is a detailed, colorful masterpiece. The characters practically jump off the page with their lifelike qualities. This is the first time David Marquez's work is published in color and it's a joy to view.

The Joyners #1 (of 4) releases from BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia this Wednesday, June 15th.
