Advance Review: Funny, Flirty Giant Days From Boom! Box

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advanced copy of Giant Days #1, from BOOM! Box, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, written by John Allison, with art by Lissa Treiman. I can honestly say, that after reading one issue I am completely in love with these characters. Susan, Esther, and Daisy are three unique college girls that have formed a bond after starting school. While they all have very different personalities, their friendship is so amusing to watch. Susan is the logical one, Esther is the dramatic one, and Daisy is the innocent one. Issue #1 catches you up on a bit of the girls experience thus far in college together. Even though it's only been a short three weeks since they started school, a lot has happened. One event in particular is Esther's break up with her high school boyfriend. With that, we get to see how her friends helped and are still helping her get through that rough experience.

But that's not all…John Allison's script is a funny flirty wonder, filled with surprising moments and experiences that we can all relate to. It's clear that we are going to experience a really awesome journey with these characters filled with emotional ups and downs. I don't want to spoil the plot of this issue for you at all, but prepare yourself for a highly entertaining read. Lissa Treiman's artwork is done in a lovely cartoon-like fashion, and almost has a Scott Pilgrim type vibe to it. Overall, I think this series is going to appeal to a wide audience of readers and be quite memorable. Giant Days #1 arrives in comic shops on March 18th with a main cover by series artist Lissa Treiman. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is February 23rd.
