ComiXology Bestseller List, 5th July 2019 – The Walking Dead Tops The Charts With 6 Issues In Top 25

Welcome to the ComiXology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Today, we pay our respects as we lay to rest a true titan of the comics industry: Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's The Walking Dead. After 16 years and 193 issues, Kirkman shocked the world on Tuesday by announcing this latest issue would the last in the famed zombie saga.

And I think it's safe to say no other indie comic has come close to the pop culture phenomenon Kirkman's creation has become. The Walking Dead is now a household name right up there with Batman & Superman. Hell, when I dressed up as Negan for Halloween, I didn't have to explain it anyone for the first time ever: everyone just got it. (And I had to explain Bane to these people. In 2012! That was like the most popular costume that year!) Seriously, this series is older than the iPhone and YouTube. When it debuted, Kill Bill Vol. 1 was in theaters, CSI was the most popular show on TV, Saddam was still on the run, and gas was $1.59 a gallon. (Sorry if I made you feel old).

And it has been Image's second-best digital seller (next to Saga, which is in the middle of one of the most excruciating hiatuses in comic history), only failing to make No. 1 twice: once to The Batwedding and once to Doomsday Clock. And now it's gone. It was our M.A.S.H. finale. Our Cheers finale. Our Friends finale. Only we can understand.

So go ahead and tell us in the comments what the Walking Dead meant to you. But no spoilers, I will not tolerate them! I mean, I have no power to delete them so I can't stop you. But I will frown upon them, I promise you!

But now to the weekly Top 10 competition. DC has lost two straight weeks. And now with Batman delayed, will they have enough to snap a rare losing streak. Let's see:

Marvel: 14
Image: 11

Yep, more than enough. Justice League & DCeased lead the way for DC, but Lois Lane is the big story this week, making the Top 10 in her debut. She's a strong, independent woman who doesn't need any Man of Steel.

Alright, I'm off to a barbecue, where I'll socialize with the same people I had to explain Bane to 7 years ago. I figure it'll take 30 minutes before the conversation outside gets political, so I need to be indoors with a plate by then. Wish me luck, and I'll see you next week.
