It's Flash Vs. Flash As DC Versus Pits Barry Allen Against Wally West

DC Versus is back, and this week they put Barry Allen up against Wally West in a battle of the Flash vs. the Flash. Neither of them are the first person to wear the Mantle — that goes to Jay Garrick — and they are in a world wherein speedsters are rather plentiful. But the two are unique among their peers.

The creation of Barry Allen helped mark the shift from the Golden Age of Comics to the Silver Age with heroes defined by science. He is the symbol of hope in the DCU, more so than the S on Superman's chest. The combination of a scientific mind and super speed made for a very special hero. But this may be one of the rare cases where the student surpasses the teacher.

Wally West first came on the scene as Barry's fan and then sidekick. While he lacks Barry's experience on scientific background, he makes up for it with his connection to the speed force. Barry uses it, but Wally almost becomes one with it. Wally has found new ways to tap into the force and is just flat-out faster than Barry.

I could never see these two actually fighting each other, but to go along with the hypothetical, I think Barry has the heart of a hero. He's likely one of the most powerful beings in the DCU, but Wally's connection to the speed force just makes him better. He even has the ability to siphon off other people's speed. If he could do that to Barry, It wouldn't even be a contest.
