Punisher: Soviet #3 is in stores from Marvel Comics next year, by Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, and we've got a preview below.
The story so far: Frank Castle has met and teamed up with the Russian version of himself, and this issue will tell us the origin story of the Russian Punisher, Valery Stepanovich.
And it's a dated origin, going back to the Russian war in Afghanistan that took place from 1979 to 1989. Will it get retconned twenty years from now like past Marvel origins?
And it looks like Valery was older even then, since he was in a leadership position.
War is… well, you know what it's like. And war in Afghanistan tends to be particularly brutal.
And this is a MAX comic, after all…
Punisher: Soviet #3 hits stores on Wednesday, January 1st.
PUNISHER SOVIET #3 (OF 6) (MR)
(W) Garth Ennis (A) Jacen Burrows (CA) Paolo Rivera
• Valery Stefanovich has put himself on a collision course with The Punisher.
• The roots of this issue go back to Afghanistan in the 1980s where Valery spent time in the Russian Special Forces and some of the most horrific things you can imagine. Things that CHANGED him.
• Frank and Valery have so much in common, but that never bodes well, does it?
